What this meant in practice is that once we'd delete media for a project we were unable to recreate that project despite having backups of each and every EX card. Most obviously this is evident in the fact that clips created this way have no 'Source' or 'Disk Label' data. Basically if you lost the generated MXF media then it was never possible to relink to recreated media, even if made from exactly the same files and everything.īasically the ClipBrowser application was not including some the Metadata that Media Composer looks for when relinking media, meaning it wouldn't recognise it as the same media. It was our experience that the 'Avid AAF' exported media was absolutely impossible to ever relink. You can now deal directly with the EX files either straight from the card or if you wish (and I think it's preferable) importing them into Avid's media management.īob check out the link I posted above. The second thing is that all of this should be unnecessary with Media Composer 3.5. I've written about this on my website: XDCAM EX Workflow In Avid Instead it is better to use the 'MXF for NLE' method and import the resulting MXF files. There are problems with the Avid AAF method from ClipBrowser around the metadata and the ability to recreate or relink those clips at a later date. You then import the AAF files into a bin which creates the clips associated with that media (you can delete the sequences that are created also). These AAF files are just metadata and do not need to be in Avid MediaFiles (and shouldn't be) - I save them into My Documents in a folder usually.ĬlipBrowser creates Avid-compatible media directly in Avid's media files directory, and then Avid should index that directory and find the media. With the Clipbrowser method (requires Clipbrowser 2+ and Media Composer 3.0.5+) you set the OP-Atom output directory in the Clipbrowser to be one of Avid's Mediafiles directorys (D:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 for example) then do the export which creates the AAF files.

Unfortunately, we also do not have the opportunity to go to a store and buy a update on Avid to maybe solve my problem, because we are currently living and working in West-Africa. Next week, I am going to shoot a 2nd health videa and it is quite important for me to get this stuff working. I did try to export the files as AAF out of the Clipbrowser and import them in the Avid Media files / MXF / 1 folder, but that was not the solution, where the AAF files could not be imported in the MXF folder (wrong format). What are some insights on this subjects from people using the program and video camera too?

One person says I need an Avid upgrade to 3.5, to not need to use the Clipbrowser any more.Īnother person said I should buy a higher version of the Clipbrowser, the version V2.0.1. Before I bought the new video camera, I specifically asked if the camera and program could 'communicate' with each other and the sales person said it would via the Clipbrowser 2.0.Īpparently, after trying it several times - following the instructions of a video posted on Youtube on this subject - it is not quite working as it should.

To make my (new) Sony PMW-EX1 files work together with Avid Media Composer 2.8.1 I download the Sony Clipbrowser 2.0. I am a Newbie on Avid, and currently working on a video project in Mali, West-Africa.
